World Day for Cultural Diversity
“Culture is the widening of the mind and of the spirit”
On Monday, 21st May, 2018, students gathered together for a special assembly on World Day of Cultural Diversity. Through a Power Point Presentation students were appraised about the cultural diversities in the world vis-a-vis food, religion, clothes, beliefs, festivals, rituals etc. They were also shown documentaries of cultural diversity across the world. Since the inception of human races, cultural diversities have marked important demarcations in the building of value systems and thought processes. In today’s world most of the human conflicts arise from these diversities. However, it cannot be ignored that the unique flavours of every culture also give reasons to the world to celebrate and rejoice. Cultural diversity is a driving force of development, not only with respect to economic growth, but also as a means of leading a more fulfilling intellectual, emotional, moral and spiritual life. In 2001, UNESCO adopted the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity and in December 2002, the UN General Assembly, in its resolution 57/249, declared May 21 to be the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.
