SPECIAL ASSEMBLY ON WORLD BIODIVERSITY DAY
“We should preserve every scrap of biodiversity as priceless while we learn to use it and come to understand what it means to humanity”
On Tuesday, 22nd May 2018, students of Meenakshi World School attended a special assembly conducted on the theme World Biodiversity Day. Through a short presentation and a quiz students were appraised about biodiversity and the need to conserve Nature. The United Nations has proclaimed 22nd May as International Day for Biological Diversity to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. Protecting and restoring ecosystems and ensuring access to ecosystem services are necessary for the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger. Reducing deforestation and land degradation and enhancing carbon stocks in forests, drylands, rangelands and croplands are needed for mitigating climate change. It is the responsibility of the present generation to work hand in hand with their parents’ generation to make this earth more habitable and hospitable. The endeavor in the form of a special assembly was thus a commendable one.
