  • United Nations Day

United Nations Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being. 24th October has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948. As a neutral body with almost all countries as its members, United Nations has been instrumental in supporting humanitarian causes across the world. This day is therefore an important day as it celebrates the existence of an organization that has helped curb situations like war, poverty, hunger, illiteracy, terrorism etc. On Tuesday, 24th October a special assembly was organized at Meenakshi World School in an attempt to help students understand the broad agenda of the United Nations and the several humanitarian works it does. Through a PowerPoint Presentation, quiz and discussion session students could understand all the nuances governing United Nations.
